Objectives

Top Tubes Ltd, located in Wednesbury, UK, is a renowned steel tube manufacturer who contacted Molyslip to help them stabilise the emulsification process and improve corrosion protection whilst manufacturing steel tubes

Using their previous lubricant supplier, their UK based mill struggled to streamline and optimise their operations.

Solution

To meet and exceed these objectives, Molyslip recommended a combination of 4-6% Cool-Tek™ (Mill lubricant) and Moly-Shield™ X4000 (Ready to use water-based rust preventative).

The combination proposed by Molyslip is used in the forming and protection of tubes manufactured from aluminised, black, cold rolled, hot rolled (pickled and dipped), and galvanised steels.

Outcome

The combination of Cool-Tek™ 250 and Moly-Shield™ X4000 resolved the issues by stabilizing emulsification, preventing variations in cleanliness and lubrication.

It also provided superior corrosion protection on both the inside and outside bore of the tubes. The deposited rust-preventative film gives the tubes a clean and bright finish and is easier to remove by the end user.

The finished tubes were cleaner leading to an improvement in overall mill cleanliness. Additionally, the use of Molyslip lubricants came with an additional bonus: the odour within the factory was markedly improved.

Overall, the switch to Molyslip products saved Top Tubes 30% on their total lubrication costs.
